  • Kosovo globe icon declared independence from Serbia globe icon on 17 February 2008. Serbia still considers Kosovo to be one of its regions, and Kosovo is still not recognized by many countries in the world.

  • On February 12, 2019, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) officially became the Republic of North Macedonia globe icon, settling the nearly 30 year long dispute with Greece over the name Macedonia.

  • Türkiye globe icon and Russia globe icon are transcontinental states, having territory in both Europe and Asia. Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan, which are not included on this map, also span the Asian-European boundary.
