The Middle East (West Asia) is not a continent. It is a loosely defined region with no clear boundaries. Some definitions of it include parts of Northern Africa. The intent of this quiz is primarily to provide a quiz on the parts of Western Asia which did not appear, due to map size, in the Asian quiz. (And yes, I've got some overlap - some countries appear in both the Middle East and Asian quizzes. Consider it an opportunity for extra practice.) I make no claim that the countries in this quiz match any one of the many loose definitions of the "middle east". Please consult with your teacher/professor and/or various resources on the internet for more information on the definition of the middle east.
Countries typically included in the Middle East are:
Armenia and Azerbaijan have long been associated with the Middle East but some sources now consider them part of Europe based on their economic and political trends. This, of course, would be based on political and economic definitions, not on a physical definition.
Georgia and Cyprus are part of Europe, but are included in this quiz because they were cut off on the Europe quiz.
Kazakhstan is part of Asia but not generally considered part of the Middle East.
The State of Palestine declared independence in 1988, but it is only recognized by the United Nations as an observer state (along with the Vatican). While not a UN member state, Palestine is recognized by 147 of the 193 United Nations members. It is expected that 3 more members will recognize it in the the fall of 2025.
