If you click on a magnifying glass to get to a region map, but realize you are on the wrong map, you may return to the world map to pick the correct continent or region. This is just navigation; it does not count as a guess.

You can return to the world map by one of 3 ways:

1. the globe icon in the top right corner of each continent or region map
2. the "world map" button - the last button in the row of buttons below the question box
3. the "back to world map" text link below each continent or region map

Labeled map: If you need to see a labeled map, you will have to do it from the enlarged map view. There is no labelled map for the whole world.

• Kazakhstan changed the name of its capital from Astana to Nur-Sultan in March 2019. In September 2022, the name was changed back to Astana .
• The official capital of Sri Lanka is Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte , which is a suburb of the commercial capital and largest city, Colombo. Colombo was the capital before it was moved to Kotte.
• Israel's proclaimed capital and seat of government is Jerusalem , but this is not internationally recognized. Most countries have their embassies in Tel Aviv, which is Israel's main economic center. Palestine also claims Jerusalem as its capital. • The official (and judicial) capital of Bolivia is Sucre, the only capital named in the constitution. La Paz is the seat of the executive and legislative branches of the national government, and the de facto capital.
• Burundi changed its capital from Bujumbura to Gitega in Dec 2018.
• The official capital of Côte D'Ivoire is Yamoussoukro. Abidjan is the de facto capital.
• Eswatini has 2 capitals: Mbabane(executive), and Lobamba (legislative).
• South Africa has 3 capitals: Pretoria (executive), Bloemfontein (judicial), and Cape Town (legislative). The map shows the approximate location of Pretoria.
• Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008. Serbia still considers Kosovo to be one of its regions. As of 11 June 2013, the Republic of Kosovo has received 103 diplomatic recognitions as an independent state. 101 out of 193 (52.3%) United Nations (UN) member states, 22 out of 27 (81%) European Union (EU) member states, 24 out of 28 (86%) NATO member states, and 33 out of 57 (58%) Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states have recognised Kosovo. Serbia does not recognise it.

• On February 8, 2019, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) officially became the Republic of North Macedonia , settling the nearly 30 year long dispute with Greece over the name Macedonia.
• China is officially called the People's Republic of China (PRC).
  Taiwan is alternatively known as the Republic of China (ROC).
  The PRC considers Taiwan to be its 23rd province and claims to have sovereignty over it. Conversely, the ROC claims to have sovereignty over all of mainland China.
